Ysgol Estyn Centenary 2005 - 2006

Ysgol Estyn was proud to celebrate our centenary during the Spring / Summer 2006. We had a number of projects to mark this occasion and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you our ideas. Our six major projects included:

1. Centenary Video / DVD. Pupils worked with a film producer to produce a half hour DVD / Video based on 'A Year's Journey at Ysgol Estyn'. Production 'teams' of pupils will have experience of working on the production side by filming school activities throughout the year. The film will also include reminiscences by past pupils of their experiences at school.

2. School Logo Mural. This was a Key Stage 1 project working with an artist to produce a permanent welcome display in mosaic tiles for both the Infant and Junior entrances.

3. Hope Community Mural. Key Stage 2 pupils worked with a local ceramic artist to produce a mural depicting the local environment. This is now permanently mounted in the 'Crush Hall' area of the school.

4. School Centenary Magazine. Mrs Jane Marriott, our previous School Secretary, co-ordinated this project to produce a history of our school. Old photographs, documents etc are included in this magazine to produce a fascinating insight into the history of the school.

5. Centenary Environmental Area. We are working with the Deeside Urban Wildlife Group to help us finalise our ambitions for our Environmental Area. This will include a dry footpath linking the area with the new rear entrance. The Home and School Association have already agreed to fund this aspect for us.

6. An Edwardian Day. To coincide with our usual Summer Fair. This included a visit from Queen Victoria, an exhibition of past photographs and memorabilia as well as stalls and exhibits which reflect the period.
